Since it opened on New Year's Eve as a part of the revitalized Underground Atlanta, the Alley Cat has proven to be a rock 'n' roll destination for those looking for a place where they can grab a drink, hang out with their tattooed friends and watch the best local rock bands perform. With all sorts of autographed rock memorabilia on the walls and an all-female service staff dressed in black hot pants, fishnet stockings, tight-fitting Alley Cat T-shirts, and little kitty cat ears, the Alley Cat takes the best parts of the Hard Rock Café and Hooters and gives them a rock 'n' roll makeover.

As if live rock bands, hot girls and plenty of booze weren't enough, I hear the food is actually pretty good as well. The menu features tapas items such as fried lobster tail and filet medallions, appetizers such as fresh (not frozen) chicken fingers, lots of sandwiches, a few pastas, and entrees fit for a fine dining establishment. No need to go rummaging through the dumpsters here. And since the Alley Cat is open until 4 a.m., you can also get breakfast items once you've partied to the point where you can't really tell if you’re up too early or out too late.

Of course, all that's just kitty treats when you consider that the Alley Cat girls not only wait tables and have fun with their guests, but they also perform little dance routines set to the Stray Cats and Nancy Sinatra that'll get even the toughest tomcats purring.

Berrak Pinar, Karie Brown, Andrew Adler, and Whitney

Here are a few of the little tattooed kittens (and one tomcat) you can play with at the Alley Cat.

Andrew Adler, owner and manager
His tattoos: Adler has a background in martial arts, so naturally he was drawn to the aesthetics of Asian tattoos. "After doing a lot of research, I found Cap [Szumski] at Timeless and that's really his specialty is the Asian tattoo," he says. "He's got such an eye for the fine line detail. Being a smaller person, the tattoos are naturally going to be smaller on my body and I knew he could hold the detail I was looking for."

The Alley Cat story: "I started the Alley Cat because I wanted to have a place for the rock 'n' roll crowd to hang out and be treated right," says Adler. In lieu of another rock dive, he wanted a place where people with long hair, tattoos and piercings could get good food and good service while still having a good time. "I wanted to have a place where the guys and girls could come and get service like at the Ritz-Carlton, but they're in a rock 'n' roll club and it's their own home."

Rock 'n' roll: The Alley Cat hosts live rock bands every Friday and Saturday at midnight. "My whole thing with bands was to be like an anti-club owner. I treat them really nice, I usually pay them extra money above what I've agreed to pay them to play and we always give them a nice tab with food and liquor and beer because I want them to want to play here and feel like it's a home for them."

The girls: "I can't really elaborate on that any more than a common sense type of thing," he jokes. "They're all really sweet girls even though some of them have kind of hard names like 'Vicious.' They're allowed to sit down at the table and smoke a cigarette and hang out with the customers and have fun. I find that customers like that because it makes them more involved with the whole feel of the club."

Whitney "DJ Faster Pussycat"
What she plays: Spinning every Thursday-Saturday, she plays anything rock 'n' roll. "I'll play anything from the Rolling Stones to Pantera to Ministry to whatever, depending on who's here and who's requesting stuff," she says. "[I play] punk rock stuff and death rock stuff depending on the band that's playing. If I don’t have a copy of it and you think I should have it, bring me a copy and I'll play it."

Her tattoo: "It's a variation on a death's head moth. It's got spider webs on the top and a circuit board on the bottom. It's got some old school and some new school. It was an idea I had and he was pretty good about drawing it up for me, he knew how I wanted it to be."

Carra "Pepper"
Onstage kitty:
Pepper is a theater student at Georgia State University and has acted in plays and on video. She recently did a music video with rappers Bow Wow and Omarion and also won the title of Miss Georgia State University. She will compete at the Miss Georgia Pageant in Columbus, Ga. on June 25.

Her tattoo: "I have one tattoo on my lower hip that's a little tiny heart. I came from a really strict household, so I wanted to get it somewhere hidden so I wouldn't hear anything from my mom. I love hearts, so I thought it would be cute like a Care Bear."

Ruby "Mischief"
Her tattoos:
Mischief's biggest tattoo is of Cassy from the Poison Elves comic books. "She's also my alter ego. I love fantasy and stuff like that and if I was in that world, she is who I would be." When she met Poison Elves creator Drew Hayes, he was not only impressed with the tattoo, but also told Mischief she had the personality traits he had in mind when creating the character.

Bad kitty: Mischief and her friend Beth make up the duo known as the Terror Twins. Together, they perform stunts involving grinders, fire, sideshow stunts, and piercings. You're also likely to find Mischief bartending at Atlanta's Masquerade on occasion.

Amy "Vanity"
Her tattoos:
Vanity says she became addicted to getting tattoos after getting her first one 13 years ago at the age of 18. She has a lot of flower tattoos because she considers herself a flower person, "but not a flower child by any means." Her most recent tattoo is a Sagittarius fairy by Rob Knight of Timeless Tattoo. Her backpiece features a wolf, which she says is her protector.

No need for a vet: "My main job is I'm a registered nurse. I work from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. three days a week, sometimes four. I work at the Alley Cat when I have a chance. I do it for fun. It's great. It keeps me younger and kind of gives me that individuality outside the corporate world. I love to hang out and I do love martinis."
