The Bouncing Souls :: Anchors Aweigh
The Bouncing Souls
Anchors Aweigh
Epitaph Records

The term punk has become almost a four-letter word to purists who turn their noses up at the TRL-friendly fare that passes as rebellion these days. But the Jersey quartet The Bouncing Souls flies its punk rock flag proudly on Anchors Aweigh. From bittersweet love songs like "Better Days" and "Blind Date" to commentary on the current social and political climate on "Born Free" to fond recollections of days gone by like "Kids & Heroes" and "Highway Kings," the Bouncing Souls' fast-paced, melodic punk rock is always self-empowering and optimistic. The predominant theme on tracks like "Anchors Aweigh" and "the Day I Turned My Back on You" among others is putting the past - the good and the bad - behind us and moving on to a brighter future like the ship sailing off into the moonlight on the cover. And that's a lot more substance than any TRL band could ever offer.
