Juliette and The Licks :: You're Speaking My Language
Juliette and The Licks
You're Speaking My Language
Fiddler Records

When Hollywood actors decide to dabble in music, it usually comes off as an insincere punch line that lacks any lasting appeal. However, Juliette Lewis and her band play old-fashioned rock 'n' roll with enough conviction to let us know they mean it. You're Speaking My Language is the band's debut full-length and it's chock full of songs that take inspiration from the Stooges ("You're Speaking My Language"), the Stones ("American Boy Vol. 2") and Patti Smith ("So Amazing"). When they're rocking, Juliette and The Licks have a sleazy glam sound similar to Texas Terri. And even the slower numbers like "This I Know," "By the Heat of Your Light" and "Long Road Out of Here" are lyrically turbulent enough to stir up the same kind of visceral response as the more energetic tracks.
