Perfect Life Full Contact
Levinhurst is a sort of side project for The Cure founder Lol Tolhurst along with angelic vocalist Cindy Levinson and instrumentalist Dayton Borders. And in some strange way, Levinhurst is like a musical recycling project that borrows just as much from Tolhurst's other band as it does from the countless bands that he has inspired over the past 25 years. With Levinson's repetitive phrasing atop Tolhurst's electronic reverberations and throbbing beats, there is a definite trance-like quality to songs like "Sorrow," "Despair" and "More/ Mad." But tracks like "Let's Go," "Sadman," and "Hope" sound more like the robot rock of Devo or Kraftwerk, only with ethereal female vocals that bring some heart and soul to the rigidly computerized beats. Throw in some trip-hop, industrial and worldly elements and you've got a futuristically retro treat for the next generation.
