No Age
Nouns
Sub Pop

The fuzzy and feedback-drenched sounds of No Age are almost certainly designed just for ears with an acquired taste. In between some My Bloody Valentine-esque shoegazing, light Built To Spill-style vocals (à la “The Plan”) and the gasps of noise rock guitar are little slivers of vintage ‘70s punk (more Television than Sex Pistols), coalescing into an album full of minor reminders of why it’s more fun to experiment than just slowly go the way of the radio. There are lots of awesome moments and bits of charm embedded deep into Nouns, like the intro of “Teen Creeps,” where the song evolves from a sole springing keyboard into a careful guitar and then, precisely timed, a rich burst of distortion washes over everything. Wonderfully weird.
