The Saboten
Kanpai Records

Leave it to an experimental Japanese trio to push the boundaries of electronic music to the next level. On its debut U.S. release, The Saboten takes the listener to pretty much every corner of the electronic music map. Opening track "Toelly (Soul Coaxing)" is similar to the deconstructionist style of Aphex Twin while the pounding techno beats of "Orgasm" are more like the blissful sounds of The Orb. "Rituel (How to Sex)" sounds like Iggy and the Stooges jamming with Einsturzende Neubauten while "Time Café (Happy Dementia)" is like some sort of audio torture technique sampling a series of blips and beeps over and over again. From murky industrial tones to acid jazzy grooves to loungey vibes, The Saboten's sporadically cohesive style is difficult to categorize, which is definitely a compliment to the group's progressive approach.
