The Young Werewolves
Hot rod culture, 50's rock n' roll and monster
movies have always been great bedfellows, and you're not
going to find more convincing proof of this than the debut
release from Philadelphia's The Young Werewolves. The band's
rockabilly/psychobilly sound is complimented by elements of
garage, punk and
surf. Songs such as "Zombie Car Chase," "The Night The
Phantom Went To Graceland" and "Curse of The Cocaine
Mummies" make its Elvis and horror film influences apparent.
I'm sure the Werewolves' record collection consists of
bands like the Misfits, Reverend Horton Heat and the Nekromantix, and Halloween is no doubt
their favorite holiday (as evidenced on the 13th track "Halloween"). The CD concludes with a hidden
cover of Billy Idol's "White Wedding," the bass line of which is hinted at towards the end of
"Dead End Friend."
