STEPHANIE FLEISCHMAN
HOT INK

by Max Brand
From the June 2006 issue of Prick Magazine.

Stephanie Fleischman is a feisty little Jewish girl with a passion for piercing. PRICK first met her last year at the South Florida Tattoo Expo, where she won the first place trophy for Best Overall Female in the tattoo contest. We were lucky enough to run into her again at this year's Tampa Bay Tattoofest, and we seized the opportunity to do a photo shoot out by the pool, which turned out perfect for the beginning of summer. While she helped us out with merchandise at the PRICK booth, we had a chance to talk about her tattoos and her career.

Max: I've seen a few pictures of you that look like they are from just a few years ago, and it looks like you have no tattoos at all. Did you recently get all of these tattoos?

Stephanie: I was doing professional modeling a few years ago, and did have a full back piece at the time. I had to let modeling go the more I got tattooed. I was 18 in those pictures.

You've been piercing for a while now. What does it mean to you to be a piercer?

Well, I started working in a tattoo shop called Whole Addiction when I was 15, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of this industry. Now that I've had the opportunity to fulfill that goal, I feel so privileged to make clients happy. It also makes me so happy to have gotten this far in just a few years.

You just attended the Association of Professional Piercers convention. How was that experience?

This was my first year at this convention, so I was kinda just observing. I did meet some awesome people like Bob Jones, and all of the APP registration staff were great. I really enjoyed the classes that I took, and besides all that, I was in Vegas!

Who are people that you most admire in the tattoo, piercing and body modification world right now?

There are so many influential people that I really wouldn't know where to start. Some are local artists like Tim McGrath aka "Yucky Boy," TimmyTatts, Holden, Novi, Rama Bass, and Mark Longenecker. I would love to work with Steve Hayworth and people at that level. And, of course, Max Brand.

Who are some of your favorite tattoo artists right now that you haven't been tattooed by?

Right now I'm into Tony Ciavarro, Dave motherfuckin' Tedder and Brandon Bond.

What's in the future for your body of art?

I'm definitely trying to cover myself with a traditional style bodysuit, and eventually take it up to my face. It's all still in the works, but I've been getting tattooed a lot lately.

Where do you see yourself going in the world of piercing? Are you trying to push any boundaries?

I know that I'm going to be doing this for the rest of my life. I'd like to learn everything I can, up to the most extreme body mods, and then someday have my own studio.
